Al Martino war einer der berühmtesten Sänger der Nachkriegszeit, der in dieser Ära neben Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Perry Como, Tony Bennett, Frankie Laine oder auch Tony Martin eine große Rolle im Musikbusiness spielte. Ermutigt wurde Al Martino von Mario Lanza, einem Freund der Familie, der ebenfalls ein Italienischer Sänger war. Martino fing an in Clubs aufzutreten und zunächst noch unbedeutende Platten aufzunehmen. Der Durchbruch kam, als er die einflussreiche Fernsehsendung "Arthur Godfrey¿s Talent Scouts" gewann. Damit verbunden war ein Plattenvertrag beim Indepenten Label BBS und die Veröffentlichung seiner Debüt Single "Here In My Heart", die schnell vom Label Capitol abgeworben wurde. Sie wurde zum Nummer 1 Hit in den aller ersten UK record sales charts. Sie führte zu einer Karriere als Sänger, Kabarettist, TV-Persönlichkeit und Schauspieler in der Filmtrilogie "The Godfather" aus den 90er Jahren.
