These macaques, which are also known as crab-eating macaques, live in forests and rain forests, wetlands and bamboo forests of the Southeast Asian region. An important requirement is that there is water nearby. The natural range extends from Myanmar and Thailand to Malaysia to Indonesia, East Timor and the Philippines. Because of their long tails, which are 40 to 65 centimeters long, these primates are also called long-tailed macaques. These monkeys are omnivores and their favorite food is fruit. But flowers, leaves, grasses, fungi, insects and bird eggs also belong to a good meal. If is the sea not far from their preferred habitat, clams and crabs of course belong on the menu.
