Advances in our knowledge of the pathogenesis and management of portal hypertension and its complications over the last 2 decades have been astronomical. However, most of the management strategies remain palliative and serves as a bridge to liver transplantation. Despite the availability of a number of books in the field of hepatology, portal hypertension as the main life-threatening complication needs a dedicated book to link between recent advances in research and current clinical practice.
