Produktbeschreibung

Comprehensive coverage ranging from basic technical information to the most advanced clinical applications of microperimetry amd multimodal retinal imaging.

Designed for use by both clinicians and technicians

Will serve as an atlas and a diagnostic reference

Edoardo Midena graduated in Medicine and Surgery, magna cum laude, at the University of Padova Medical School, in Italy. After his residency in Ophthalmology, he obtained his  PhD in History of Medicine. After Fellowships in Pathology and Retina, his research and practice primarily focused on posterior segment diseases. After being Visiting Professor of Ophthalmology in major Ophthalmic Institutions around the world, he became Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Padova Medical School in 2001, and  Full Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the same University in 2006. In 2007, he became Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology, Padova University Hospital and  Director of the Residency Program in Ophthalmology at the same University. Dr. Midena is also General Secretary of: the European Board of Ophthalmology, the Italian Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology , and the Italian Retina Society; he is member of the scientific board of the GB Bietti Foundation (IRCCS, Rome)  and scientific consultant to the Robert Hollman Foundation. He is an elected member of the European Academy of Ophthalmology, the Club Jules Gonin, the Retina Society, and the Macula Society. He is Fellow of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (FARVO) and the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO). Dr Midena is in the editorial boards of some major ophthalmology journals. He has written four books, edited three books, and has published 98 papers in peer-reviewed journals.

Microperimetry allows precise functional examination of the retina and optic nerve and is especially valuable for evaluation of the macular area. This fully up-to-date textbook on microperimetry, written by leading experts in the field, will also serve as an atlas and diagnostic reference. It is designed for use by both ophthalmologists and optometrists in daily clinical practice and clinical research, and the contents thus range from basic technical information to the most advanced clinical applications. Past and current microperimetry techniques are reviewed, and the role of microperimetry in  the context of multimodal imaging scenario is explained. The full range of clinical applications is then discussed, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetes, myopia, retinal dystrophies, disorders of the vitreoretinal interface, inflammatory chorioretinal diseases, toxic retinopathies, glaucoma, and low vision.

Microperimetry and Multimodal Retinal Imaging: the Fundamentals: Functional Evaluation of the Retina: an Introduction.- Retinal Fixation and Microperimetry.- Microperimetry: technical remarks.- OCT/SLO  Microperimetry and Correlates.- Scotopic microperimetry.- Multimodal retinal imaging: an Introduction. Clinical Applications of Microperimetry and Multimodal Retina Imaging: Early and Intermediate Age-Related Macular Degeneration.- Geographic atrophy.- Neovascular age-related macular degeneration.- Retinal Pigment Epithelium and Choroid  Graft.- Macular Telangiectasia Type 2.- Diabetes and Retinal Vascular Disorders.- Myopia.- Retinal Dystrophies.- Disorders of the vitreoretinal interface.- Inflammatory chorio-retinal diseases.- Toxic retinopathies.- Glaucoma. The contribution to visual rehabilitation: Low vision: diagnosis and rehabilitation.

Microperimetry allows precise functional examination of the retina and optic nerve and is included in the current multimodal (or integrated) imaging approach to the retina, primarily for the evaluation of the macular area. Macular disorders are among the major blinding conditions, and diagnosis, follow-up, and treatment are based on functional and morphological retinal evaluation.

This fully up-to-date textbook on microperimetry and multimodal retinal imaging, written by leading experts in the field, will also serve as an atlas and diagnostic reference. It is designed for use by both ophthalmologists and optometrists in daily clinical practice and clinical research, and the contents thus range from basic technical information to the most advanced clinical applications. Past and current microperimetry techniques are reviewed, and the role of microperimetry in relation to other retinal imaging techniques is fully explained. The full range of clinical applications is then discussed, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetes, myopia, retinal dystrophies, disorders of the vitreoretinal interface, inflammatory chorioretinal diseases, toxic retinopathies, glaucoma and low vision.

"This is the first book on microperimetry and multiple retinal imaging techniques, introducing a multi-dimensional approach to the retina and the integration of our knowledge of the macula in health and disease. It is a valuable tool for those who are interested in integrating pathology and functionality, and who want to broaden their understanding of the complexity of the retina.” (Shimon Rumelt, Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, Vol. 255, 2017)

This book offers comprehensive coverage on microperimetry, ranging from basic technical information to the most advanced clinical applications. An ideal atlas and diagnostic reference, it is designed for both daily clinical practice and research.
