Dr. Heather K. Caldwell was born and raised in South Louisiana and now makes her home in Texas with her husband and children. She completed her doctorate in 2009 from Texas A&M University in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Social Studies and the History of Education. She is currently faculty with Texas State University.
Socialite Mary Carroll Craig Bradford - born in Brooklyn, New York in 1856, moved with her parents, husband and children to Colorado in 1878 to seek their fortune in the silver mines of Leadville, Colorado. Through unforeseen circumstances, the Bradford''s did not find great wealth and Mrs. Bradford,widowed and left to secure her own future, became involved in women''s rights activities, including suffrage, women''s clubs, and education in Colorado. She was a teacher, county superintendent and eventually was elected to the highest educational seat in the state - State Superintendent of Public Instruction, where she served 6 terms. This book will describe the life of Mary Carroll Craig Bradford and her contribution to the suffrage movement and education in Colorado.
