What does 20th-century cyberpunk literature have todo with a mild mannered 19th-century British don whohid his shyness behind the façade of a children´swriter? At first glance, it seems as though the twohave absolutely nothing in common. But, when onerealizes the don in question is none other than theReverend Charles Dodgson, better known to the worldas Lewis Carroll, author of such classics as Alice´sAdventures in Wonderland and Alice´s AdventuresThrough the Looking Glass, the connection becomesslightly more focused. There is no doubting thatCarroll´s creatures continually appear in popularculture from music videos to video games to works ofscience fiction. What is in question is why. Why doCarroll´s characters figure in science fiction? Isit just the oddness and the bizarre quality of hisworks that cause popular culture to reach back tothem? Or, is it possible that Carroll´s influencepenetrates deeper than just his psychedeliccharacters and surreal plot twists? The goal of thiswork is to find an answer that goes beyondthe superficial weirdness of Carroll´s worlds.
