Practical, every day resource of the radiologic and urodynamic investigations commonly used to evaluate the lower urinary tract

Practical, every day resource of the radiologic and urodynamic investigations commonly used to evaluate the lower urinary tract

Includes supplementary material: sn.pub/extras

Dr Uday Patel. MB. CLB MRCP FRLR – Consultant Uro-Radiologist at St Georges Hospital & Royal Marsden, London, UK. Expert in urological imaging, as both a practitioner and teacher. Authored books include Handbook of Transrectal Ultrasound & Biopsy of Prostate, Carcinoma of the Kidney and Imaging and Urodynamics of the Lower Urinary Tract.

Lower urinary tract symptoms may be the result of a structural or functional abn- mality. To consider either in isolation would be an incomplete assessment, but c- bined anatomical and functional imaging provides a more powerful and complete tool for investigation of lower urinary tract malfunction. Yet many of the currently available radiological texts concerning lower urinary tract imaging fail to discuss these two aspects in a holistic manner. We hope that this book will fll this gap. Although it is written to be as comprehensive as possible such that it covers the vast majority of lower urinary tract disorders that will be encountered in adult urological practice, it is not meant to replace conventional textbooks of uroradiology. Rather, it is meant to be practical and user friendly. It is intended for everyday clinical use; it should allow the trainee and trained radiologist or urologist to plan a logical, yet complete radiological and dynamic investigation of the lower urinary tract. It should also be useful for nurse practitioners, medical students, and all other medical staff who commonly manage lower urinary tract disorders.

The Bladder.- The Normal Bladder.- Imaging Modalities Used for Assessment of the Bladder.- Congenital Anomalies of the Bladder.- Intraluminal Abnormalities of the Bladder.- Abnormalities of the Bladder Wall or Mural Abnormalities.- Staging of Bladder Cancer.- Abnormal Bladder Contour or Size.- Functional Abnormalities of the Bladder.- The Urethra.- The Normal Urethra.- Congenital Anomalies of the Urethra.- Intraluminal Abnormalities and Filling Defects of the Urethra.- Intrinsic Abnormalities of the Urethral Wall.- Lower Urinary Tract Trauma.- Neoplasms of the Urethra.

Imaging of the Lower Urinary Tract is a practical, user-friendly aid to planning a thorough radiological and dynamic investigation of the lower urinary tract. It provides a holistic approach, marrying the diagnosis of both anatomical and functional abnormalities.

Both comprehensive and concise, this book covers the range of lower urinary tract disorders that are commonly encountered in adult urological practice whilst presenting the information clearly. Key point summaries further aid quick reference in the clinical setting.

Dr Uday Patel, MBChB MRCP FRCR is Consultant Uro-Radiologist at St Georges Hospital and The Princess Grace Hospital, London, UK. He is an internationally recognized expert in urological imaging, as both a practitioner and teacher.

The audience includes any medical practitioner who manages patients with lower urinary tract disorders. The book is comprehensive and clearly written, making it an excellent everyday reference for urology and radiology residents, nurse practitioners, and practicing radiologists and urologists. ... Each chapter contains many figures, tables, and diagrams. ... This is a welcome addition to the urologic and radiologic literature.” (Patrick J. Shenot, Doody´s Review Service, June, 2010)

"This is the second edition of this softcover book. It is a very practical book authored and edited by a uro-radiologist. ... There are 14 chapters covering various radiological aspects of the lower urinary tract. ... it will however be useful for those who would like a general overview. The main features of the book are the numerous tables and pictures with radiological interpretation. The book would serve as an excellent reference for trainee urologists, radiologists and healthcare professionals ... .” (ICS News, Vol. 7 (1), January, 2011)
