G. K. Chesterton, foi um escritor, poeta, dramaturgo, jornalista, palestrante, biógrafo, e crítico de arte inglês. Chesterton é muitas vezes referido como o "príncipe do paradoxo".Sobre seu estilo, a revista Time comentou: "Sempre que possível Chesterton produz seus pontos com ditos populares, provérbios, alegorias - primeiro, cuidadosamente, virando-os de dentro para fora." Chesterton é bem conhecido por seu personagem de ficção, o sacerdote-detetive Padre Brown, e por sua apologética. Mesmo seus oponentes reconheceram a importância de textos como Ortodoxia ou O Homem Eterno. Um dos principais admiradores de Chesterton foi o escritor argentino Jorge Luís Borges, que viu no inglês um escritor na linha de Franz Kafka e Edgar Allan Poe, reconhecendo, contudo, um estilo que deu a Chesterton sua própria originalidade.

That was done very frequently in the last decadence of the Middle Ages, and it failed altogether in its object. But there is one thing that is infinitely more absurd and unpractical than burning a man for his philosophy.
