The author has used the characters in his book to reflect his own deep insights into life and living and dying. Many of his well-read friends have commented that they have never read a book like One White Camellia and have asked if some of the more mystical happenings relayed in the story had actually happened. They also admitted that they could not put the book down until they had read it cover to cover.
Though the author has lived what would appear to most as a very ordinary life, over the past half century he has lived the background and many of the accidentals that appear in One White Camellia. He began writing the novel in 1960, shortly after he married, but, as the children arrived in rapid succession, he put off finishing the book until, 'The kids were raised.' But One White Camellia never left his mind or heart.
