Dr Mooi Standing is an independent nursing and educational consultant with over 40 years'rnexperience that includes: i) practising mental health and adult nursing in a range of hospital andrncommunity settings; ii) lecturing pre-registration and post-registration nursing students fromrncertificate to Masters level and presenting scholarly papers at international nursing conferences;rniii) researching how nurses develop clinical decision-making skills and publishing articles, booksrnand chapters on this topic for nursing students, registered nurses and advanced practitioners; andrniv) providing external consultancy in curriculum development and quality enhancement ofrnnursing programmes both nationally and internationally. Mooi is currently a Series Editor for Learning Matters/SAGE Publications' 'Transforming Nursing Practice' books, an accredited Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Quality Assurance reviewer of nursing educational programmes, and a Professional Regulator as a Panellist on the NMC Practice Committee.

Clinical decision-making is an indispensable facet of professional nursing care. In order to become a registered nurse it is essential that the student develops sound decision-making skills in order to deal with the challenges ahead.
