Provides most up to date volume in endocrine cancers
Pertinent to an interdisciplinary audience of oncologists, surgical oncologists, endocrinologists, endocrine surgeons, otolaryngologists and fellows and residents of this discipline
Endocrine Neoplasia is a comprehensive, updated, and clearly-written text covering the diseases for which endocrine surgical expertise is often needed. We look towards advances in the science and the art of endocrine surgery to continuously improve outcomes for our patients. The goal of this text was to provide a detailed deillegalscription of both the underlying science of disease as well as the art of clinical management.
The book is divided into five sections addressing neoplasms of the thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal gland, neuroendocrine pancreas, and multiple endocrine neoplasia. Experts from the United States, Canada, and Australia have contributed chapters addressing both the biology of endocrine tumors and the clinical management of disease. Recent discoveries regarding the genetic underpinnings of disease are highlighted. Updated consensus guidelines were used for clinical recommendations. The management of complex and often confusing clinical problems is discussed in detail.
Part 1 – Thyroid Chapter 1: The biology of thyroid oncogenesisChapter 2: Evaluation of the thyroid noduleChapter 3: Differentiated thyroid cancers of follicular cell originChapter 4: Sporadic medullary thyroid cancer Chapter 5: Anaplastic thyroid cancer Part II – ParathyroidChapter 6: Primary hyperparathyroidism Chapter 7: Parathyromatosis and parathyroid cancer Part III – Adrenal Chapter 8: IncidentalomaChapter 9: Pheochromocytoma and paragangliomaChapter 10: Functional cortical neoplasmsChapter 11: Adrenocortical carcinomaPart IV – Pancreatic Neuroendocrine TumorsChapter 12: GastrinomaChapter 13: InsulinomaChapter 14: Rare neuroendocrine tumors of the pancreasPart V – Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Chapter 15: The menin geneChapter 16: MEN 1. Clinical manifestations and managementChapter 17: The RET protooncogeneChapter18: MEN 2. Clinical manifestations and management
Endocrine Neoplasia provides a broad overview of the neoplastic conditions of extracranial endocrine glands not involved in reproduction. Benign and malignant tumors of the thyroid, parathyroid glands, adrenals, and neuroendocrine pancreas are covered. Special emphasis is on the detection, surgical treatment, targeted non-cytotoxic adjuvant therapy, surveillance, and genetics of these tumors. Standard chemotherapy and radiation treatments are discussed. This book is pertinent to practicing oncologists, surgical oncologists, endocrinologists, endocrine surgeons, otolaryngologists, and fellows and residents of these disciplines.
"Endocrine neoplasia encompasses a spectrum of benign and malignant tumors. In this text, noted experts in the field discuss the biologic characteristics and clinical management of these challenging entities. This book will be a unique resource for both physicians and scientists."
- Steven T. Rosen, M.D., Series Editor
From the reviews:"This is a comprehensive, up-to-date review of endocrine neoplasia, with a focus on pathophysiology as well as proper clinical management. ... Targeted at a wide audience, the book offers a thorough review that may be useful to students, residents, and fellows, as well as practicing physicians. The material is appropriate for endocrinologists, oncologists, endocrine surgeons, and otolaryngologists. Overall, the quality of this book is excellent. It is concise and complete and readable.” (Rebecca L. Brown, Doody´s Review Service, July, 2009)
