HENRY WADSWORTH LONGFELLOW (1807-1882), the most popular American poet in the 19th century, was known for such works as Evangeline, The Song of Hiawatha, and Paul Revere's Ride. He was one of the fireside poets, a group of 19th-century American poets from New England, whose poems about morality were very popular in the United States and overseas till the beginning of the 20th century.
