Produktbeschreibung

In-depth analysis of the institutional and social processes through which different types of renewable energy landscapes have been emerging in Southern Europe.

The book includes the most recent research on the relationship between landscape and renewable energy in Southern European countries, from a wide range of disciplines.

Complementarity between the theoretical chapter and the case studies.

This book provides timely, multidisciplinary cross-national comparison of the institutional and social processes through which renewable energy landscapes have emerged in Southern Europe. On the basis of case studies in these countries, it analyzes the way in which and the extent to which the development of renewable energies has affected landscape forms and whether or not it has contributed to a reformulation of landscape practices and values in these countries. Landscape is conceived broadly, as a material, social, political and historical process embedded into the local realm, going beyond aesthetic.

The case studies analyze renewable energy landscapes in Southern Europe on different political and geographical scales and compare different types of renewable energy such as wind, hydro, solar and biomass power. The contributors are leading experts from Spain, France, Italy and Portugal. The book is intended for researchers, graduate students and professionals interested in geography, landscape and planning.

Part I: Conceptualising Renewable Energy Landscapes.- Emerging Renewable Energy Landscapes in Southern European Countries.- Landscapes of Energies, a Perspective on the Energy Transition.- Part II: Development of New Energies and Emerging Landscapes.- A Country of Windmills: Wind Energy Development and Landscape in Spain.- Solar Photovoltaic Power in Spain: Expansion Factors and Emerging Landscapes.- Wind Power Landscapes in France: Landscape and Energy Decentralization.- Looking Beneath the Landscape of Carbon Neutrality.- Contested Agroenergy Landscapes in the Dispersed City.- Part III: Hydropower and Mountain Landscapes.- The Evolution of Renewable Landscapes in Sierra Nevada (Southern Spain): From Small-Hydro to a Wind-Power Landscape.- The Nature of Resources: Conflicts of Landscape in the Pyrenees during the Rise of Hydroelectric Power.-Hydropower Exploitation in the Piave River Basin (Italian Eastern Alps): A Critical Reading Through Landscape.- Part IV: Renewable Energies and Protected Landscapes.- Wind Power and Environmental Policies: Ethnography in `Protected Landscapes´.- Of Other (Energy) Spaces: Protected Areas and EVERYDAY LANDSCAPES of Energy in the Southern-Italian Region of Alta Murgia.- Wind Energy and Natural Parks in European Countries (Spain, France and Germany).- Part V: Renewable Energy Landscape Planning Tools and their Application.- Solar Thermoelectric Power Landscapes in Spain: A New Kind of Renewable Energy Landscape?.- The Production of Solar Photovoltaic Power and its Landscape Dimension: The Case of Andalusia (Spain).- GIS, Territory and Landscape in Renewable Energy Management in Spain.
