Magda Diab-El Schahawi, MD, MSc, is Associate Professor for Hygiene and Clinical Microbiology and Deputy Head of the Department of Infetion Control and Hospital Epidemiology at the Medical University of Vienna with further qualifications in General Medicine and Public Health as well as a Master of Science degree from the London School fo Hygiene and Tropical Diseases. Molecular Epidemiology and technical aspcets of infection control have been main interests and research Topics for over 20 years. She has numerous functions in national and international associations, is a reviwer of numerous scientific journals in the field of Infectious Diseases, Clinical Microbiology, and Infection Control and has published widely in these fields.

Jacqui Reilly, PhD has a joint appointment between the NHS and GCU. She is a professor of infection prevention and leads the Safeguarding Health through Infection Prevention (SHIP) research group in Glasgow Caledonian University. In the NHS she works for Health Protection Scotland where she is Lead Consultant for HAI, Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and infection prevention and control. She is specialised in infection control before moving to the Scottish Centre for Infection and Environmental Health (SCIEH) in 2001 to develop the national programme of HAI surveillance in Scotland. She became a Consultant in 2004 and then Head of Group for HAI in Health Protection Scotland in 2006. More recently (2010) she has become Lead Consultant in what is now known as the Public Health and Intelligence Service of National Services Scotland (NSS).
